A female teacher has been remanded in Prison custody for two weeks by the Takoradi Circuit Court over assault.


Takoradi Circuit Court yesterday 23rd June 2021 remanded a female teacher in prison custody for two weeks for assaulting and threatened a female colleague in the same school.

Madam Jamilatu Mohammed, age 34, the accused, a teacher of Islamic JHS at Aboadze in Shama District of the Western Region is to appear again in court on 7th July 2021 for the entire case to be heard.

The Judge who presides over the case expressed shock and worried about the fact that the complainant is pregnant and also both the accused and the complainant are all teachers of the same school. The Judge, Abigail Anima Asare, therefore, questioned the kind of lesson students of this school would learn from their teacher’s act.

The accused Jamilatu who is a social studies teacher of the school allegedly beat up the complainant, who is also an English Language teacher of the same school mercilessly and in the act remove the wig of the complainant who was six months pregnant in the presence of the JHS 3 pupils.

The Judge has therefore asked the prosecutor to notify the Controller and Accountant General Department (CAGD) not to pay the accused a two weeks salary for she will be serving in custody.
