Over 5,000 Teachers across the country have asked GES to submit their data for payment of Legacy Arrears.

More than 5000 Teachers across the country have petition the management of the Ghana Education service GES to submit their data to the Finance Ministry to effects payment of their legacy arrears between 2012 to 2016.

According to the president of the Association of Aggrieved Teachers on legacy arrears, Mr. Nana Opoku Foster, the Three-month pay policy at the time was to audit the list presented by the IPPD Coordinators of each district to ascertain the truth in the list.

The petition explained that because the process in audit the claims was long then the three months policy was adopted so that the audit of the first three months’ salaries will be paid later.

According to the petitioners, the three months policy was an excellent one because it was there to prevent the age-old corruption, where some IPPD Coordinators will present ghost names to claim arrears, not due them.

The affected Teachers became Aggrieved due to the ending process by Ghana Audit Service, and that the previous Government made some payment before they were voted of office. The petition said the promise by the current government to pay the affected Teachers in January 2021 did not materialize.

The president of the Aggrieved Teachers, Nana Opoku Foster said they had a series of meeting with the management of the Ghana Education Service and some government appointees and the outcome was that the affected Teachers will be paid in October and November 2021, hence the called for management of the Ghana Education Service to submit their data to the ministry of finance for payment.
