Australians can get free, round-the-clock health information and guidance from Healthdirect Australia, a government-owned, non-profit organization. With the exception of Queensland, all state and territory governments work together with the Commonwealth to support it.
Origins and Funding Structure
Established in 2006 under the Council of Australian Governments (COAG), Healthdirect Australia was created to offer accessible health services nationwide. The organisation is governed by a board appointed by a Shareholder Committee comprising representatives from the Commonwealth, New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania, Western Australia, the Australian Capital Territory, the Northern Territory, and Victoria. An additional $20 million was allocated equally by the Commonwealth and the states and territories to support mental health services. Aged Care Guide
