Step-by-Step Online Application Process

  1. Visit the Wits Application Portal
Start your application at www.wits.ac.za/applications. If you’re a first-time applicant, you’ll need to create a temporary ID to begin.
  2. Apply for Up to Three Programs
You may apply for a maximum of three qualifications. The order of choice does not affect your chances. If applying for two programs within the same faculty, it’s recommended to apply for a third program in a less restricted faculty such as Humanities, Commerce, or Science to keep your options open.
  3. Fill in Personal Details Accurately
Use your full names as they appear on your ID or passport—avoid initials or nicknames. Complete the application form carefully, providing all required personal and academic information.
  4. Upload Supporting Documents
After submitting your application, log into the self-service portal at www.self-service.wits.ac.za using your student number and birthdate (YYMMDD) to upload certified copies of:
    • ID or passport
    • Grade 11 or 12 results
    • Academic transcripts (if applicable)
    • Other relevant certificates
  5. Pay the Application Fee
The application fee is R100 for South African citizens and permanent residents, and R700 for international applicants. Payments must be made before the closing date using your student number as a reference.
  6. Submit and Track Your Application
Once your application is complete and payment confirmed, you can track your application status via the self-service portal. Wits will notify you of admission decisions via email and the portal.
