Allowance meant for deprived areas teachers has not been implemented as of 29th Oct- GNAT


The Ghana National Association of Teachers GNAT has noted that the allowance that is meant for teachers living in deprived areas as enjoined in the 2020 Collective Agreement between GES and the teacher unions has not been implemented as of October 29th, 2022.

According to the National Council meeting held at GNAT village, Abankro on 25th – 29th October 2022, payment of allowance based on a percentage of monthly gross salary to teachers in areas designated as deprived, as enjoined by the 2020 Collective Agreement between the Teacher unions and the GES has not been implemented.

The National Council of GNAT, therefore, called for the implementation of such provision in the Collective Agreement before 31st December 2022.

The Council also called on the ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service to resolve matters relating to lower ranks promotions before the end of December.
