The Government through the Ministry of Education is exploring ways to add coding and robotics as a course in our Basic school’s curriculum so that children can start learning coding from the very stages of life.
This initiative is spearhead by the ministry of Communication and Digitation and the ministry of education, the belief that as children can incorporate coding at an early age, it will afford them valuable skills in problem-solving, boost their creativity and help them develop an interest in how the world work.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Communication and Digitation, Mrs. Ursula Owusu Ekufu when officials of MTN Ghana handed over a cheque of GH¢10 million as part of their 25th anniversary of the company to support Girls in Information Communication and Technology (GICT).
The Minister explained that when young children are introduced to such programs at the very ages of their lives it will enable them to develop their talent, build teamwork and communication skills.
According to the Minister children in ICT is the next initiative to be roll-out after GICT, stating that there is the need for graduates in the ICT for jobs and hence the need to expose young children to the opportunity to learn ICT at the Basic schools level.
