Some teachers in the country are still crying about compulsory workshops organized for them by the Regional and District Directors of Education of the Ghana Education Service despite the warning of the Ghana National Association of Teachers GNAT.
In a letter dated 10th November 2021 and signed by Mr. Mohammed Amin Dawuda, the district Education Director of the Nanton district has stated that the University of Development of studies is been licensed by National Teaching Council to organize continuous professional development programmes for teachers in the Nanton district.
Most of these teachers are worried about how effective the workshop will be. According to the letter the teachers both private and public are to receive training in four broad areas which include a Teacher license, a CPD framework and points building system, standard and compliance, and Ghana Teachers Prize and Education Regulatory Body Act, 2020, act 1023.
Mr. Mohammed Amin has stated that all teachers will benefit from the workshop because every teacher will be awarded a certificate from UDS/NTC, CPD points by the NTC framework, presentation handout and launch, and water.
The date of the workshop is 30th November 2021 at Nanton Naa Sulemana Conference center.
Mr. Mohammed said the programme is compulsory for the category of teachers in all public and private schools within the District. Teachers are directed to pay a registration of GH¢50 to their Headteachers.
Meanwhile, the leadership of the Ghana National Association of Teachers GNAT has strongly opposed the National Teaching Council changing its role from advising the minister of Education on teacher licensing to the role of organizing continuous professional development of teachers.
It looks as if the call of the Ghana National Association of Teachers for NTC to stop organizing compulsory workshops for teachers has not yielded a good response as teachers are continuously forced to attend workshops.
