The Honourable Minister of Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum has finally clarified the controversial lesson notes debate among teachers, headmasters, School Improvement and Support Officers (SISO), and officers from the District Directors of Education.
Speaking during an interview at Peace FM radio yesterday 7th February 2022 Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum stated that as a teacher it is good to write lesson notes as it makes the teacher prepare before entering the classroom to deliver but the policy at the Ghana Education Service (GES) that says that every lesson notes should be written by hand needs a second look.
He explained that most School Improvement and Support Officers (SISO) and headmasters have been on the neck of teachers recently that they should write lesson notes with handwriting and this is making most of the teachers uncomfortable to deliver their lessons which is not supposed to be so.
He added that in this 21st century where everything is becoming digital if a teacher feels he or she can type and print his or her lesson notes then they should be allowed to do so. There is no need to force a teacher who can type and print his lesson notes to write that same thing in a notebook.
He said he has called on the management of the Ghana Education Service to relook at that directive which says that every teacher must write their lesson note by hand. There is no need to make it compulsory for every teacher to write lesson notes by hand now that there are laptops that can be used to type and print.
He said management of the Ghana Education Service will very soon serve District Directors of Education and headmaster with notice to accept either printed or handwriting lesson notes.
