It is illegal to claim the cost of Teachers Laptops is GH1831.47 – GNAT

The Central Regional Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Teachers GNAT, Reverend Dr. Isaac Owusu has stated that it is not true the unit cost of the one-teacher one laptop initiative is costing GH¢1831.47 instead of GH¢1550 of the earlier cost that was stated.

Speaking on Central Regional Base Radio station, Live FM 107.5, 8th September 2021, Dr. Isaac Owusu stated emphatically that, he will be surprised to see the price of the Teachers Laptops changing from the earlier GH¢1550 to GH¢1831.47 as stated by some unions.

According to him, the deduction of the 30% Teachers are to pay for the Laptops is GH¢ 465. But any attempt to change the 30% deduction of the GH¢465 to GH¢ 549.44 from any member in the Region will not be accepted and that he will challenge such authority.

Dr. Isaac Owusu stated that the initiative to distribute Laptops to Teachers is good but because there was no broad consultation that makes it looks like some teachers are unhappy with the initiative. He added that some teachers have more than two or more Laptops that are of good quality than what GES is to distribute and such Teachers do not need these GES Laptops. Assuming there was to be consultation he would have advised that such Teachers be allowed to install the teaching materials into their laptops rather than going for this GES Laptop again
