The Methodist Church Ghana has strongly rejected the directive made by the Ghana Education service to Wesley Girls Senior High school to allow Muslim students to fast during Ramadan.
In a statement signed by Rt. Rev. Michael A. Bossman, the church stated clearly that “it took a strong exception” to the decision emphasizing that it ” concede to the unilateral directive of the Ghana Education service”
The church insisted that the Ghana Education Service must respect the long-standing agreement of government and mission schools.
The Methodist Church explains further that the school rules existed not today and most renowned Muslim ladies have gone through the school complying with all the school rules and regulations.
The minister of education. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum met with the management board of the Wesley Girls Senior High school and advise the Ghana Education Service to make a decision that will address the concern of the school and the students.
On 1st May 2021 the Ghana Education service issue a statement signed by Cassandra Twum Ampofo directing Wesley Girls Senior High school to allow Muslim students to fast as well as all schools under the Ghana Education service.
The statement also added that parents can write to school for their children to fast but school authorities are not reliable for any health-related issue concerning fasting.
