The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) wrote to all teachers to take the National Teaching Council Licensure exercise seriously.
NAGRAT recommends all teachers log on to the NTC website to provide the data required for the license.
“I wish to convey to you the official launch and roll-out of the implementation of the Ghana
Teacher Licensing Project (GTLP) which occurred today, May 14, 2021, at the Education
Minister’s Conference Room at about 10:00 am under the auspices of the National Teaching
Council (NTC).” The union stated
The Hon. Minister of Education, launched the exercise in the presence of the Hon. Deputy
Minister of Education nominee, the Chief Director of the Ministry, the Director-General of
GES, the Deputy Director-General (MS) GES, the Registrar of the NTC, the former Board
Chairman of NTC, the Union leadership, some Directors of Education, among other
dignitaries and the media.
The National Teaching Council is mandated to professionalize teaching by
the Education Regulatory Bodies Act, 2020 (Act 1023), Section 60 by registering and
licensing all teachers in the country.
It is in respect of the above that the National Teaching Council launched the exercise and
issued qualified teachers to present, their biometric ID cards. Following the launch, the exercise
will start with the teachers in the Greater Accra Region on Monday, the 17h of May 2021.
The entire nationwide exercise is expected to be completed within 18 months.
It is expected that the Council will begin registration and issuance of temporary licenses to
non-qualified teachers across the country. The said licenses will be valid for one (1) year but
renewable for another year only by section 73, Act 1023.
It is our expectation and recommendation that all teachers take the exercise seriously and
do well to log on to the NTC website to provide the data required to ensure the success of the
exercise.
