The Government side (Ministry of Employment and Labour Relation, Fair Wages and Salaries Commission) and the Organized Labour Unions have met several times to determine the 2025 base pay for public sector workers but all the meets have ended in a stalemate.
Due to inflation and other hard economic conditions, Organized Labour Unions proposed 60% increments on their salaries for the 2025 year. The government side has tables 8%, 15%, and 18% on their first, second, and third meet with organized Labour but Labour Unions have rejected all these percentages tabled by the government.
According to a report by the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) today Friday 9th December 2025, the government side has referred 2025 base pay negotiations to the National Peace Council to help them reach a consensus with organized Labour Unions.
According to the Executive Secretary of the Ashanti Regional Peace Council Secretariat, Reverend Emmanuel Badu Amoah, the National Peace Council has already gotten in touch with Organized Labour Unions to help them reach a consensus with the government on 2025 base pay negotiations.
Meanwhile, in the last meeting of government with organized Labour Unions, the Labour Unions increase their demands from 60% to 65% citing 2.5% increments of taxes by the government in the 2025 budget statement.
