Parents Teachers Association (PTA) has not been canceled in shs – Dr. Yaw Adutwum

Teachers mostly in the second cycle institution have complained about the idea that the government in the last four years after the introduction of the free senior high school policy has canceled the parent’s teachers association dues in the schools. Which these teachers think was helping a lot in terms of infrastructure in the senior high schools.

Conference of Heads of Assisted secondary schools (CHASS) last year called on the government to review the free senior high school policy that was introduced. They were of the view that because the government has canceled the parent’s teachers association (PTA) dues in high schools has affected most infrastructure facility that has been going on in the various schools by the PTA.

CHASS said that most of the infrastructure facility that was been sponsored by the parent’s teachers Association in the schools has been left stagnant after the government canceled PTA dues in the schools, so they were calling on the government to review the policy and also allow PTA to function in the senior high schools in Ghana.

When the Education Minister-designate Dr. Yaw Adutwum was asked during his vetting whether they will allow PTA in the senior high schools in Ghana, he stated that people should not be confused about the government canceling the PTA levy on students in high school with parents teachers Association PTA. He stated that the government only canceled the parent’s teachers Association levy or dues that students were asked to pay in senior high school and not PTA itself.

He said that the free senior high school policy covered the dues students were asked to pay and that there was no need for that levy on students. So PTA has not been canceled but rather it is the levy or dues on students that the government has canceled.
