Release textbooks for new curriculum now-Gnat told Government

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) which is the mother union of all teacher unions in the country has called on the government to release textbooks for basic schools in the country. They said is unfortunate that the government has introduced a new curriculum in the country for almost two years and yet no textbooks have been made available for use by both the teacher and the students in the country meanwhile teachers are expected to deliver their duties in their various schools.

Speaking at the sixth quadrennial delegates conference of the association in Komenda, the unions asked the minister of education to ensure that textbooks for the new curriculum meant for basic schools are made available to teachers to facilitate teaching and learning without any further delays.

Speaking at the conference the central Regional chairman of Gnat Rev.Dr. Isaac OWUSU expressed his disappointment on the way the government is handling the issue of the lack of textbooks for the new curriculum in the country.

He explained that it is important education managers understand the challenges teachers are facing in the courses of discharge of their duties in the basic schools in the country to make decisions that will bring out the best in them.

The issue of the government blaming the pandemic as an excuse must be put to stop because we are not the cause of the economic woes in the country and therefore must not be made to suffer unduly for them. The union explained.
