The Chief Executive Officer of Africa Education watch Mr. Kofi Asare has stated that the major challenge affecting the Education sector is the issue of spending the country’s limited resources without ensuring efficiency in the system. Using the amount of money the Education Ministry uses to purchase past questions to final year students as an example.
Mr. Asare explained that the GH¢34.6 million that was used to procure for the past questions through a single source could have been done in other ways to ensure that they get a lesser price for the books.
He added that when you go to the ministry of education everything procured is done through a single source arrangement which makes the country not get spending efficiency, knowing very well that value for money is different from spending efficiency. He explained spending efficiency that the cost of buying an item could have been much cheaper if there is an alternative source for procuring an item.
He pointed that the Africa continent is last but one when it comes to spending efficiency.
Mr. Kofi Asare further explained that the arrangements the Education Ministry use in procuring the past questions at a cost of GH¢78.00 per one from the Messrs Kingdom books and stationery is worrisome.
