The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has called for 15 to 20 percent salary increments of public sector workers on the pending national minimum wage and salaries negotiations that they will be sitting on in the coming days.
Speaking on Citi news the president of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Mr. Angel Cabounu noted that it will be in the best interest of workers if the salaries of public sector workers especially Teachers is increased to 15 or 20 percent because the economic hardship in the country has necessitated the call for increments of salaries.
Speaking ahead of May day, Angel Carbonu stated that the prices of commodities especially food have shot up in markets and that their wife’s and sisters can testify to the fact and as a result of that 15 to 20 percent increments of salaries of public sector workers won’t be bad at all looking at the situation that workers are faced with now in the country.
Explaining further he noted that even the Banks they are working with as an organization have written to them for an increase in interest rates for which they have agreed with them.
The Teachers and Education workers union TEWU also speaking ahead of May day have complained about the condition of service of the Education workers, the inability to conclude on the condition of service of a public university, non-conclusion of the 2021 minimum wage and salaries negotiations, and the failure of some Director of education to implement the new condition of service for some GES staff that made them go on strike in January this year.
