The reopening date of all public colleges of Education has been postponed to early Jan. 2022-GTEC

According to the Director-General of Ghana Tertiary Education Commission GTEC, prof. Mohammed Salifu, the COLLEGES OF EDUCATION FOR THE 2021/2022 ACADEMIC YEAR Further to their letter of October 8, 2021, communicating approval for the proposed calendar of the Public Colleges of Education for the 2021/2022 academic year, has been rescheduled as follows:

  1. That the reopening date for continuing students is rescheduled to early January 2022 2. That the reopening date for First Year students remains January 8th, 2022 as earlier agreed.

The rescheduling is to enable the calendar of the Colleges to align more closely with that of the five public Universities working with the Colleges on the delivery of the B.Ed program.

The Director-General of GTEC encourages the principal of Colleges of Education to kindly take note of the changes and arrange to submit a revised calendar based on the plan of alternating the presence of different cohorts of students on campus for in-person teaching and learning.

Background

The Continuing students of the 46 Public Colleges of Education were scheduled to report to school on the 7th of November 2021 to continue with their academic calendar for the 2021/2022 academic year. This was to enable the College of Education to handle the resistant students and also to eliminate the online teaching that was affecting most of the students.

Now this new directive from GTEC has come as shock to most of the continuing students as most of them have moved from places they have gotten to work for their school fees to come and prepare for the reporting.
