Previously, VicRoads also handled road construction, maintenance, and traffic management. However, as of July 1, 2019, those responsibilities were transferred to the Department of Transport (now known as Transport Victoria).
The organization is now operated through a joint venture involving the Victorian Government, Aware Super, Australian Retirement Trust, and Macquarie Asset Management.
Where Is VicRoads Located?
VicRoads’ main administrative office is located at the iconic Rialto Towers in Melbourne, while the regional administration office is based in Ballarat—which also serves as their call centre.
Additionally, there are multiple VicRoads offices across metropolitan Melbourne and regional Victoria, making their services accessible statewide.

1. Driver Licensing
Need a driver’s licence or looking to renew it? VicRoads makes it easy to:

Once you renew online, you have 3 months to update your photo—no appointment required.
2. Vehicle Registration
Whether it’s registering a new vehicle, transferring ownership, or renewing your rego, VicRoads provides all the necessary tools online or in-person.

4. Alcohol Interlocks
For drivers with court-mandated alcohol interlock devices, support is available via the Alcohol Interlock Support Centre at 1300 723 790.

Road and Traffic Enquiries
VicRoads no longer manages roadworks or traffic conditions. For road-related matters, you’ll need to:
